LINAC2024 – 32nd Linear Accelerator Conference
We’re excited to present the latest results from our collaboration with the Heidelberg Ion-Beam Therapy Center (HIT) for the LINAC 2024 in Chicago. Together, we’ll present a paper and poster titled “A new RFQ for the Carbon Therapy Injector at HIT Heidelberg” showcasing advancements in the injector RFQ design for cancer treatment with heavy ions.
LINAC 2024, the main bi-yearly gathering for the worldwide community of linear accelerator experts, provides a unique opportunity to hear about the latest advances in research and developments on linacs and their applications.
Our joint effort with HIT focuses on developing a novel Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) for the carbon therapy injector, aiming to enhance the precision and efficacy of carbon ion therapy. The HIT facility in Heidelberg, Germany, has utilized light ion beams up to carbon since 2006, with their current RFQ serving as a bottleneck in beam transmission. Following a thorough analysis, HIT has opted to procure a new RFQ from Bevatech, known for its higher beam acceptance and precise mechanical tolerances. This RFQ is scheduled to replace the old one in 2026.
